In the culture I've seen here in cbus, it seems a relatively appropriate thing to ask someone with regards to a meeting.So why do you think beer (and I do emphasize beer not 'drinks') is taboo?  

"I feel like I'm actually doing something rather than watching others people do it"   what a crazy culture our kids our growing up in...I'm sure you will get pounded with great non-profits to give money to,  but seriously consider investing in children's lives through camp.  

I´m also Irish (from Limerick), but have been based in Madrid Spain for quite a few years.

It's not just a more laid back rural lifestyle, a lot of these cities are hip college towns with plenty of culture etc.

People get to live their lives, even people who rent.Some of this may be cultural, I suppose.

These areas have a subset of renters with a completely different culture and standard.
