I would try to recess it slightly into the wall so it rests flat on the floor and leaves no gap where it meets the wall.If that's not an option you may have to trim the bottom or side edges so they match whatever angle you actually have.

Provided you weren't trying to dump under performing properties at the time, you may have experienced some short term heightened turnover if tenants lost jobs in the recession, but I still would think that replacement tenants would have been easily found as it is not like all of sudden millions of people no longer needed housing to stay in, so everyone would eventually land somewhere, right, particularly if you are in an upper income area, where unemployment wasn't nearly as badly affected?

In most markets in major cities its a sellers market so if you are going to look for a MF or SFR you need to make sure to be very very selective and dont rush into a deal just to have money placed...if you rush to place the funds you might get lucky and get an ok deal but more times than not you will not...and it sounds like you have the luxury of time to be selective.With brexit and upcoming elections theres higher risks of recession in the USA, so why not take 25% of your money and put even amounts of money every 3 months across 2 years into an SP500 index fund some ETF etc and just slowly invest your money.
