Look up the posts MWR (morale, welfare and recreation) office, or the ACS (army community services) office.

It is a field that I can be in for decades and still have things to learn, and ways to grow; all while being able to do it how I want (as long as it is legal, moral, and ethical).

It strikes me that having the right partners is crucial- there is nothing like the moral support of like-minded individuals to keep going when the going gets tough!

You asked some hard questions that I have not asked myself when I call myself setting out to become a REI wholesaler I realized just how amateurish that is and the reality is anyone, especially REI newcomers who plan to be successful in closing morally sound deals need to be asking ourselves the hard questions and preparing to deliver greatness to those we serve! 

@Brent Coombs I have no moral issues with banks, borrowing, lending etc.  

@Kris Kahrs After receiving payment, aren't you suing for loss due to conflict of interest or at least morality?

IMO, don't moralize. 

Follow thru and get it taken care of.If you feel a moral responsibility tell them you'll  give funds to the church on their behalf so they can help them find housing.
