The last 2 years have been incredibly damaging and the legislative session that started this week promises to be the worst yet ... 

Last I heard, the senate/governor passed legislation that basically said state rental laws superseded city/county ordinances/laws and that basically killed the requirement to include the Indianapolis Tenant Rights form that Marion County said you needed to include with all new leases.Is that accurate?

California hasn't passed a 'helpful' piece of legislation in....

You only have a certain amount of days to return the security deposit (usually by state legislation) or a breakdown of why it's not being returned fully, or not at all. 

Has anyone launched a campaign of opposition in their own town against proposed zoning legislation such as this?

That is why we need to change the law in Missouri - I just received notice from the Ohio REIA that one of their state legislators had introduced legislation to make it unlawful for a city owned utility to charge the owner for the tenants unpaid bill.

I am seeing legislation all over the country, but especially on the coasts, of government restricting the ability of housing providers to screen tenants, do credit checks, etc.
