I have a hard time kicking folks out for any reason, but I let a kindly couple who hoarded food and other stuff and it took 3 weeks to haul everything out and get rid of mice. 

Begin with small rent places, invest in REITs, and team up with folks who know the ropes.

As that will at least help folks that you reach out to know that you are a real person, with a picture and professional bio.

I have listened to a few podcasts recently from folks whose opinion I appreciate like Ken McElroy, George Gammon, and a few others. 

If anyone has any folks that they can refer me to with expertise in helping Canadians invest in Detroit, please let me know. 

I have met a few folks doing STRs out that way and they are doing pretty well.

Talk to folks, ask them what/how they invest and that'll give you some pointers to learn about things you may not have even known existed.

The city taxed the owner out of business, charging $21k a year in taxes, and all potential buyers were aware of this tax burden.We had other bidders, many of whom were churches, but they couldn't secure financing due to the high purchase price of the building.If folks like Former City Councilor Sarai Rivera were so worried about what would become of the building, they should have come forward before the sale.Personally, I'm glad they didn’t because it's one thing to be forced out of business and have your selling options limited by the city's burdensome tax policies.
