I think the neighbors have a legitimate complaint but it isn't like that all the time just here and there and there is no HOA. 

I also think when you're house hacking you blur the lines a bit between "this is my home" and "this is my rental" and it can be easy to legitimize putting tile backsplash in when it's really not necessary. 

Now, something to keep in mind, is you only have a certain amount of entitlement (what enables you to do 0% down on a VA) with which to use.  

Since they are on the same parcel that essentially enables you to rent/own both in one.

@Srikanth Vadlakonda Any legitimate lender should be willing to give you their contact information and be even more willing to speak over the phone or in person.The oldest scam in the book is fake lenders charging ridiculous up front fees and then blowing off the customer.

What matters is selecting properties that best enable you to meet your goals.

If you can't verify someone's identity, credit worthiness, or other risk factors, then that's a legitimate reason to deny their application.2.
