I believe some do own a 2nd place near Los Angeles but a fairly small percentage.  

Hi Alex, I believe there is a Pittsburgh group that meets regularly but I would love to attend another gathering as long as time/place works.

It's just not in places I want to borrow from. 

Appreciation takes time and from everything I have seen and read, the Northeast is a good place to be for appreciation if you have the capital to start there.
