We also have more projects that we plan to hire out in the next few years. ( replaces old wooden single pane windows, replace collapsing porch and updated very old plumbing).

We're past the point of me bringing over a bottle of wine to smooth things out.

We were thinking about bringing a bottle of wine to the two houses bordering us and giving them our info so that they can call with any issues.

With a home that old, with no access under the structure, it could very well be sitting on wooden timbers, on dirt, for it's "foundation".

You can do it, you need a good cleaner you trust, a maintenance person (luckily, our cleaner partners with one) and then some emergency numbers "just in case" (i did have to call a 24-hour plumber 1 time so far). and then i come down every few months or so to check on the place. thats also how we found out at some point guests have stolen - spices, laundry pods (my fault for leaving out too many), games that we left for people to play, wine key.

It sounds like you're in a desirable area for this kind of venture.I go to a resort in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York, where besides cabins, they have Shiftpod2's on wooden platforms.
