I want to get involved in Multifamily investing for cash flow purposes, but my local market (manhattan) is too expensive, I would be putting too high a percentage of my capital at risk.

Commuter times from these areas are comparable and sometimes a lot more convenient to Manhattan which I’d good for renters.Prices on small multi family are better than in almost any area of NYC.Good luck!

Companies like Goldman Sachs have figured out, Manhattan is not the center of the universe for financial talent. 

REgional thing and remember this was early 70s I never got a tip though that i can remember just a nice thank U.one of the my employees that grew up in Manhattan  when he came to Oregon ( illegal to pump your own gas) first time we filled uphe tried to tip the pump jokey and the guy was stunned no one tips the gas pump operator.. he said in Manhattan it was expected. 

Well as for Poughkeepsie I’m here now because i am in walking distance from the train and commute to manhattan daily.

This mainly means that it is close to transportation and no more than 30-40 minutes from Manhattan (I work in the city), and has good parks nearby to run/cycle.
