Unfortunately, the basement isn't accessible from inside the home, and the only entrance is a cellar door outside that was locked with a deadbolt.  

If you are looking to target a single family with a mother-in-law (or basement apartment, or mother-in-law addition, or additional family living space, realtors use different terminology), you need to find ones that has a separate entrance already to start, and then you want to look for separate kitchen (wet bar is okay since you have some of the plumbing already in place), and go from there. 

Maybe it's just an office with its own entrance.

Condo has pool, sauna, gym, and security entrance. 

@Sherman DunnI would have those eyes taking very specific photos of things you’ll need to see: mostly utilities and their service entrances into the property.

I paid $960k for a 5 bedroom 3 bathroom ~5,000 SF home (dated) on a gorgeous 2 acres including gorgeous grounds, a quick walk to the nearest Festival entrance, and 40 or so minutes to Palm Springs.After $280k or so in remodeling the home (including adding 4 additional bathrooms), and $30k or so on enlarging the pool and improving the already impressive grounds (plus perhaps $30k in furnishings), we are grossing more then $400k a year in gross vacation rents. 

We just bought a SFH and have a small room under the front porch with a separate entrance.

Property purchase price  $1,124,0006884 sq ft , ( 2 ) 1800 sq ft units   downstairs  that could  rent for 3500 NNN And identical  spaces above , the problem is I would have to put maybe 35-50k into it to create a separate egress so each unit has its own entrance and exit .

The property is 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and also has a somewhat finished basement with an entrance and exit that will be a separate room w/ kitchen and bathroom (Not a legal duplex).The numbers:I had this house under contract for 205k but after inspection, pulled out.
