It does require batteries though (it says they last a year), so they would need to be replaced periodically. 

I would just do two so you have a backup if a battery dies. 

After 6 months or so with batteries recharged, I had the desire to get back in the game again -- And I did, but with a much more manageable role/position.

The main home has an extremely large solar system, 23- Module 8.28kWDC, 6.79 kWAC and 1 Tesla battery.

Beyond that you've got constant fighting with the neighbors, layers of nicotine caked onto your walls, constant complaining, broken windows, no batteries in your smoke detectors, and a yearly Section 8 inspection that requires you to pay to fix a whole bunch of tenant caused damages. 

I informed him I wasn't able to get to the house right then and there and that he'd have to try to disable the alarm himself by pressing a button on the smoke detector or taking the batteries out.

Also, what would you do that would charge your batteries while you do it?

It's a great feat of engineering, and Tesla is going about it the right way by building the infrastructure and battery technology to grow their business, but we're a long way off from them having a large marketshare. 

In the mean time I will put up some motion detecting, LED battery operated lights.
