I have heard about sponsors that have been in the business for decades being in trouble. 

I am wrapping up my licensing education with the intent of being able to buy and wholesale solo part-time, while keeping my full time job.How would I go about finding a brokerage that would sponsor me as a sales agent while allowing me to have this flexibility?

That local government is who submits as "sponsor" for proposed applications.

I guarantee if there is litigation the Sponsor is going to get named personally. 

Bigger Pockets can't stop sponsors from going on other sites (podcasts).

I would caution you to pick your sponsor very wisely. 

Local MFA returns are incredible at the moment and I'd like to get in on at least one cycle of them, if possible.At the minimum, then, I'm looking for Phoenix MFA deals... but even more specifically, I'd really prefer that the sponsors be based in Phoenix or -- even better yet -- be from Phoenix!

An attorney can give his opinion as to what the odds are of the different ways a legal dispute can play out, but it’s the investors decision based on a cost/benefit/ risk analysis to decide how and of to proceed.There’s no way for anyone to render an opinion about what you “should” have done without (1) complete information as to the property being purchased and (2) complete information as to the risk tolerance and financial makeup of your investment group.Here’s my advice - don’t second guess yourself based on opinions of people who (1) don’t possess “all the facts” and (2) probably never acted as sponsors of a syndicated investment.  

I am not sure if an attorney review will help with this, specific, basic level of knowledge.Just like an attorney likely won't call out, from a legal perspective, that you are investing with a sponsor who is 23 yrs old and been a residential loan underwriter for 8 months before trying to piece together a syndication.
