If he is very involved, you should look at it as buying a book of business and name recognition, as you should not expect the inner workings of the company to stay the same once he's gone.

Focusing on one area is good, this way you have focus your marketing dollars on one group and thye will get some name recognition. 

@Janette Richan if you are a motivated self starter I would suggest going with 100% broker and have control of where your training dollars go.If you want something more structured a team might be for you.I see no advantage in being with a big brand with "name recognition" if they are not feeding you leads.
