It may seem more expensive however  you will spend more using more coats of cheaper paint.A light pink covered a blue and purple polkadot wall in one coat.

Fill it with warm water and some stuff you can get in the Walmart auto dept. called Purple Magic or another type of grease/oil remover.

@Brian Pulaski @Candace Pfab The design world is moving away from the grey's and purple tones.  

I would use either cement board or mold resistant board (purple board) at a minimum.

I got my kitchen painted grape jelly purple without my permission.The job might even be only half done with paint drips on your countertops.Go take a look.
