Every time we started finding ourselves spinning the wheels and not getting anywhere with the current strategy, we'd try to come up with another one.Eventually, we decided to pull the trigger and over time, we took advantage of additional opportunities within the endless possibilities of RE investing.

The problem with a STR is that you don't know what the demand will be like in your location until you spin it up. 

This doesn't mean that there aren't great deals currently still out there because there are but you don't want to compare the deal got a year or two ago to what you can get now because you'll find yourself stuck in the same place and spinning circles.
