We just stayed at a house that I thought the matress was so comfortable, when I checked to see what make it was, it was a memory foam topper(sleep innovations, 2-3" topper, put that on my list for future purchases) Nice soft  sheets, soft blankets, nice pillows for all preferences and have at least 3 per person available.

I want to be sure that if we do use the inserts, the cavities (where the counterbalance weights now move) are air-sealed and filled with some good insulation (probably cellulose or spray foam).

Our experience has lead us to using closed cell spray foam insulation; we find it the easiest and most effective way to insulate and air seal a balloon framed house.
