Cuts down on extension cord use which is dangerous.Replace all existing and add more  than you think is necessary. 

Manufactures of "cord and plug" units design them to work on a 15 amp circuit since that may be where they're plugged in.A dedicated 50 amp, 220 volt circuit, such as for a range, can provide a lot more power.  

I throw on the waders and  go over and find the pump , and its unplugged , but there is an extention cord plugged in .
