These loans typically have lower interest rates than other types of financing which is still saying something currently given that you can get a 6.5-7% conventional loan vs. an 9.5-14% loan using a DSCR or HML.

You can make this work with an 8' ceiling; you just won't be using a thick mattress. 

Id love to hear anyone else's experience using a VA Loan for a small multifamily property (2-3 units) and any tips on what to avoid or make sure to do!

When using a DSCR loan, the property is more often than not held in an LLC! 

A better solution would be to keep the funds in the account and invest into a syndication using a self directed IRA. 

@Raymond Cardenas- correct ...using a 401K loan for down payment purposes is normally  acceptable  and  wont  affect your qualification ratios
