However, now that you've expressed a safety concern to him, letting him know of the potential for liability, I think he's left himself open for a claim if anything happens now, for not addressing it.In the meantime, I think I'd install something like the grill I linked to above.

After a big storm ripped through here a couple hours ago, we're without power and my wife just grilled us up some food in the pouring rain...
