I just put in buy orders on some gold mining stocks for example.But if you are stuck on real estate as the investment, history tells us that rents hold firmer than real estate values in a downturn.

We refinanced and took more out of them than we had invested in them (we did not blow this money but had it in mutual funds that performed similar to the rest of the stock market in the Great Recession).
