If either of the notices expired, and he is still there, you can start the Unlawful Detainer law suite to evict him at which time you need to summon him to the court and go through the entire process.

I may be inclined to wait to actually file the suit for unlawful detainer until after the 27th now that you are so close, but I would definitely serve the 3-day Notice to Pay or Vacate in the meantime.
