Sorry about the situation.Rentals are a physical representation of their owners, so I can imagine you aren't at peace with being the owner.

If she came after us, we would have pursued it.. but we didn't really need the money (it was just the principal of it all) so we just decided we rather have peace of mind and let it go.

He is soon gaining peace of mind.:)  broke over a half dozen clauses in my lease currently by moving in. 

The reason you spent the money for the inspection was to obtain peace of mind or to have a legitimate reason to kill the deal.Basic maintenance, repairs, or end of life issues are not grounds to terminate, but anything structural would.Are you using an attorney for your side?

If you are interested in preserving the relationship and family peace then this is a very dicey area to enter into.

Just didn’t enjoy them.I found this approach comfortable and less “risky” in terms of my sanity and peace of mind which I value greatly.Here comes leverage!
