I have some experience in farmland, since I help manage my wifes family farmland in Idaho. its hard to get started when your new, unless you have contacts. a little story, a local young ex marine came to us a few years ago and wanted to farm the ground and we also held some other leases, so being kindhearted (and from a military family) I gave him a shot, and I even provided him with all the equipment and seed and fertilizer to get him started. well that turned into a nightmare, he thought farming was a m-f job. so it didn't workout. so my suggestion, would be to look for some crp land that hasn't been farmed in years and break in the ground yourself and show what a hard worker you are. most land owners would rather see the land farmed then to sit in crp.

A little more info on the nature of your seed funding, your expectations and your risk tolerance.To gain experience, I would take a portion of that 1-million (say 25%) and find someone like @J Scott or @Will Barnard (if you want to try high end flips) and fund one or more of their projects in exchange for being able ask questions, tag along, and learn.
