Looking to have access to more capital to help do more deals this year and want to make sure i'm not breaking any laws and get into trouble.  

Do it wrong,  no saying how many issues.I've done a ton of OOS BRRs, strictly invest out of city and mainly OOS.

You may actually have it worse in NYC as opposed to the rest of the state, make sure you look up the exact laws and/or speak with a lawyer.

I know people in Canada, China, England etc. that own property.There is no law I am aware of that says who can and cannot own real estate.  

Another strategy you can look into is building out an "in-law suite" or ADU.
