You can withdraw from your 401k starting in the year you turn 55 if you qualify.I am following a plan similar to yours.

The other watchout is if you lose your job you are required to pay the money back quickly, like 30-90 days with most 401K's or the loan gets converted to a withdrawal that comes with tax implications and penalties. 

I want to use my IRA and do a 60 day rollover and put the money back in the IRA before 60 days to avoid early IRA withdrawal penalties. .
