Better than underground homes which have issues with moisture etc.

Turns out, the previous owner did take many steps to mitigate the moisture damage and the home was very dry and mold free when we acquired it.

And you'd be shocked at how fast things grow back. measured in days not weeks or months if has moisture. 

The moisture issue and structural issue need to be addressed and you can do so before the insurance adjuster comes out.

I return to my cocktail of winter moisturizers tonight when I land in Denver.I understand why it is more expensive here.

From the top of my head - mildew, moisture buildup, dust, structural cracks...

Next steps are to put down a roll of plastic to prevent moisture or wet floors. 

Otherwise, the dry ground will suck the moisture out of the ground. 

Moisture in a bathroom is killer.

We just discovered a crack in the concrete slab foundation that is a borderline major problem:- It is a vertical crack about 1/8 inch wide that is at least 9ft long, which is causing a 3/4 inch drop in the flooring and some evidence of old (luckily) limited moisture and termite intrusion. - BUT, it also appears old and probably a symptom of the original house settling.
