That's really what cryptocurrency is all about; highly encrypted data that has innate (or at least agreed-upon) value.

Whenever I issue a payoff, I encrypt and password protect the payoff and wiring instructions document, then call the attorney with the password. 

The county's web server can utilize cookies, encryption, redirects, javascript, json responses, firewall rules and many other means by which to make scraping difficult.

If you use a bank they will have encrypted ways to send sensitive documents.

You can get good file encryption software for very little cost.

And without any enhanced encryption!

This even makes file keeping even easier because I don't have to have files locked and highly encrypted/secure because they have social security numbers on them.The problem: I never get the social security number once they become a tenant.

I would just look to have the file encrypted if you have sensitive information like investor names, addresses, socials. 

Their sign-up portal is running on HTTP (not encrypted) with my sensitive info transmitted unencrypted over the net.  

The connection to biggerpockets is already encrypted (note the https:// in the URL), and ironically, you're actually MORE susceptible to bad actors when using a VPN:  First, VPN providers are already pretty skeezy as a general rule, so why would you now want to route all your traffic through them?
