Even an after-hours emergency call should have been less than $200.I would contact the locksmith to verify this is a legit charge and get the details of what happened.If it really was a broken knob, then I think it's only fair to absorb the cost.

If you build (via managing a general contractor), you should (ideally) know more about how the property was built than if you bought an existing home--you know what's behind the walls, and ideally you might avoid anything wrong with buying an existing home with issues you and your inspector didn't catch.I understand there's risk to building--it just seems right now that the risk is lower than buying an existing house--a house where you simply cannot know every detail without tearing it down to the studs and doing a complete remodel.

I acquired the four-plex with varied levels of updates, but would need/want to paint cabinets, paint doors, trim, walls; if carpeted, replace carpet with LVP; replace faucets with modern faucets, etc.

After the new security issues arising with videoed properties that are posted on public places...OTA, MLS, etc....we have decided against videos that show the layout of the property, or other details that would breach the security of the home.
