They take a special rechargeable battery, but that's been an advantage IMO.

For example items such as light bulbs, batteries in the smoke detector or furnace filters. 

His word should be rock solid on those types of things, not "Will this Dewalt battery work in the Rigid charger I bought 6 years ago?"

Change the furnace filter, change the batteries in the smoke detectors (every 6 months, and keep a log for insurance to show you have done this) and inspect for any leaking faucets/toilets. 

Lightweight and good battery life is desired over high performance.
