We always install laundry on the lowest floor in the unit (several of our units are 2-story) and install an overflow pan with floor drain under the laundry units themselves.We have winter here which comes with a month or more of temperatures in the -20 to -30 range.

It would require bringing in an architect and structural engineer to draw the solution out and we would have to relocate the furnace that currently sits exactly where the rear entry would move to.The other solution is to put in a new drain stack, plumbing and gas lines entirely to where the bedroom would relocate and open the front of the house up again.

If it's hot water, you need to say whether you have baseboard or standing radiators. radiators need the air bled to allow water to move, baseboard often doesn't have bleeds and the line needs the air flushed out by opening the drains at the boiler.
