Something to look in to and not just laws on the books.

My in-laws are moving to the US from another country. 

The state doesn’t have rent control laws, but landlords are prohibited from collecting more than one month’s rent for security deposits.

It is just the tax law.

Good luck.If your very choosy ( as long as the law allows you to be) Section 8 can be just fine.. their are risks though.As we know 90% or more of section 8 is single mothers..

If you are going to do it yourself and be successful, you must know the law inside and out and learn how to resolve problems before they happen.If only someone wrote a practical how-to book for DIY Landlords...

When you figure out money flow, count all costs, and know the laws for renters and owners.

Not to mention the laws they be changing..

I'm considering specifically a Latin American country after I do my research and fly there several times to visit for extended periods  - I speak and read enough Spanish to get around although I'm not fluent or highly proficient. 

We have tenants add .5x for a pet deposit in lieu of a $500 pet deposit (2.5x or 3.5x respectively) however there are some new pet fee and pet deposit laws coming in Colorado January 1, 2024 and we aren't yet sure how these caps on pet deposits will impact our use of Rhino for this purpose (see below re: legal definition of "Security Deposit").What questions do you have?
