And I understand that i am college kid with no money or experience but then you see people like Rob Beardsley who dropped out at 20 and bought a 200 unit property through syndication and then you think, hm, maybe its possible. 

I've had a hard time coming to that realization, it's a home with sentimental value that we figured we'd keep forever to give to our kids, but that's the parent in me.

Very odd to see a 19 year old kid In the real estate investing world i feel like, but the sooner the better.

I think it made my property lower in value-- I wish I was kidding. 

Hello Kate,Although I'm Portuguese, i left the country many years and in the last 10Y I've been living Belgium (Brussels), where together with my wife we have invested in real estate / property management.Over a year ago we moved to Portugal (Lisbon) with the kids and we live between Brussels and Lisbon.

Does this matter if you're not optimizing for building a ton of wealth to pass onto kids? 

If they passed away, stepped up basis,  multiple properties then a landlord- getting old they will want to sell- their kids won’t want them, etc etc.  

The inspection will also vary depending on whether there are kids in the house or not - they don't care about a couple small flaking paint spots if there are not children.
