In Charlotte, I'd personally on South End, NoDa, Plaza Midwood, Dilworth, Elizabeth, Uptown, or areas a bit further out like Ballantyne.

@Keith Angell I'd say you are on the right track with the HELOC. 

There are a few Dundalk neighborhoods I'd stay away from but for the most part it's a great area for house hacking/BRRRR.

I guess my first question, which I imagine is similar for many who enters into this forum, is what is the best first steps for someone who is interested in real estate and investing, but doesn't have a great deal of capital to begin the journey?

I'd love to know this as well.I do pickup a listing or 2 per year from Craigslist.
