My question is, would you just let this ride or does it make more sense to attempt to catch them while they're working and ask them to stop?

He was paying the monthly payments up until the beginning of this year, then he stopped and the number I had for him is now disconnected and of course does not respond to emails.

How that is addressed will depend on whether this is a new venture funded with cash, an acquisition, a round of expansion funding, etc.
