Blaire, welcome aboard.My company is not fazed by investing out of our local areas in Chicago and Silicon Valley as long as the numbers work, the deal secure, and we are not looking at a war zone. 

So it's mostly Silicon Valley techies that graduated a year or two prior buying a 45 minute commute, or investors trying to preserve capital:I want to keep $175k or $250k in my pocket for a 2-4 unit investment property down payment, but if I don't find that property then I want to be able to apply it towards lowering the payment on my primary residence. ^ Pay the 2nd off if you don't find that fourplex you were looking for.

Originally I'm from Germany but moved to Silicon Valley to work as a Software Engineer.About a year ago I was looking at my investments and realized that I want more diversification than just stocks and bonds could offer me.

I caulk the entire perimeter of the dishwasher space with silicone and create a silicone dam across the gap between rear of cabinets and the back wall or base.

A lot of money from Silicon Valley is invested in Sacramento real estate.

I live in San Jose (right in the heart of the Silicon Valley in California), so my market (including the surrounding area) is full of very very very high priced real estate.

These scenarios are mainly in North Bay and Silicon Valley markets (but they also seem to be common Bay Area-wide). 

Many internet  companies are moving into the venice area (silicon Beach) and Playa Vista has a number of internet companies, and Apple is moving in.
