Should we just be patient and wait for leases to end so that we are able to market to a larger pool of buyers?

You are on the right path, be patient and be thankful you have family around to help you out.

I quickly got over it and just told myself to learn from this experience and be more patient next time.

I would recommend being patient and waiting for a more buyer advantageous time because on your first few investments you have a higher probability of making mistakes.
