My brain want's to automatically assume rents were not collected, not that they were just sitting on your $$$$ because that, wow, that's a BIG problem and a VERY bad sign of things if that's the case.

The only thing I can add is that she signed the lease on my behalf- the realtor was trying to send me a document for electronic signature, but I couldn’t open it at work, so the realtor sent the document to this person and she put my signature on.

Maybe you could ask her to sign a lease addendum advising her that her ex lives in the building and asking her to certify there are no restraining orders and such limitations on either on either of them to her knowledge.
