The last time I was Orange County probate court the security deputy greeted me by name and asked if I'd be going to a mutual friends BBQ; the judge greeted me by name in the elevator; and, a probate attorney made a beeline to come over to me to say hello. 

You need a local attorney's opinion, they will know how such arrangements are viewed in your jurisdiction, what Judge Judy will say or will likely say.

I use this for some investors i work with in the Orange County, both before and after a rehab.

If it were my issue I would consider buying a beach front home in San Diego or Orange County that you could use as a vacation rental property.
