IF you do decide to send them your results of the background check, like previously said get it in writing and if you send it electronically, ensure you encrypt it to lower the chances of identity theft. 

This won't help the current situation, but in the future go all electronic.

I now use an electronic payment service (rentpayment.com) and encourage all of my tenants to use it (I pay ACH fees, so they pay the same rent as sending a check).
