Question about Contract process

Hello everyone,

I have not yet started wholesaling because i want to understand the contracting process a little more. I am interested in wholesaling virtually because i live in NYC and i feel there would be many more opportunities in different markets. I plan to do the contract signing online with platforms like dotloop that let you legally sign papers electronically. So my question is, how do i ensure the process runs smoothly and how do i protect myself from someone who may be trying to scam me? Do i request copies of their state ID? or are there any other thinngs i should do to ensure to protect myself as well as the people i work with during the process?

Thank you for any help!
