I’d recommend checking out some of the podcasts on BiggerPockets to hear from other investors who are finding success in the STR's .

Real estate is a long term game and a lot of podcasts, reels, etc will show you examples of 25 year olds retiring from their 400 unit section 8 portfolio in Cleveland.

I can understand how a wholesaler would find some deals (I've heard some podcasts about that, essentially they're hitting the pavement) but I wonder how "investors" and "realtors" find properties if they are not using MLS/Zillow/Redfin?

Nope......i heard of it on a podcast though.i actually have studied banking and economics for the last year and a half.

I can tell you that Rod Khleif's podcast is free.

Lookup the podcast called Tax Smart REI by Thomas Castelli and Ryan Carriere (Hall CPA) - they have described it very clearly with IRS case examples.  

Take a look at this podcast from BP - it goes over Beginner friendly ways to start investing and you will take alot from it. 

My biggest advice - take your time, do your research, and consider hiring a mentor.Check out the Rookie Podcast and forums on BP; you'll gain a lot of valuable insights from them.Wishing you success in your investing journey!
