I know of a real estate guru one of the mid western states is after because a student misunderstood and misapplied his program.

I like the western states.

Sweet spot here is western suburbs.

About 3 years ago they were vilified and despised, ask anyone who owned Inland Western (now RPAI) how fun the transition from private REIT to exchange listed REIT was for them. 

@Karen Margrave  Portlandia inner city regentrification is super hot. suburbs are good to great,, rural still slow but steady demand.I see a trend in the mid western towns of regentrification in all major markets... as hipsters want to move back from the burbs and they want to walk to their favorite hangouts or bike.

I would also add Squier Park, Center City and Western Blue Hills are all solid areas to check out.

I am in the process of relocating to western Mi mostly to invest and work in real estate.Grand rapids is a nice city, lived there briefly way back when.
