I have been told that I can only claim the actual expense for driving e.g. hotels, gas, meals etc. versus a per diem expense based IRS ciculars.

@Bill Gulley -I don't know about this REIA specifically, but some groups take care of all or a portion of the travel expenses for guests including hosting them at restaurants for some meals.

Or, you might just want to give her a gift card for a nice meal.

The meeting this week might have a $10 fee for non-members (or it might be free), with the expectation that you order a meal/drink from the restaurant, Giovannis.
