Shut down the water to both hot water heaters, pull the pressure relief valve on the good water heater, install the pressure relief valve in your temp connection, install the temp connection on the good water heater, attach your hose to the system side of the unit without hot water and you'd have both units running on one hot water heater with no permanent modifications to your plumbing.
