The contractor suggests duct cleaning that we'll do anyway, but I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue like ours and could provide additional info on the questions below:- some additional info re reason of the smell (what kind of bacteria is it?)

As far as safety , bodies are piling up in NY right now and there's anger towards China creating new virus strains with wild animal markets for food and medicine (and I realize the far east encompasses a lot more than China, but angry broke people don't care)... so I would monitor the situation.

Make no mistake in that the smell of Aldehyde is like no other in that once you have had a whiff, not unlike ammonia or skunk (think marijuana cigarette smoke), it's definitely a strong scent you will not soon forget.
