They may tell the banks to hold off in order to stabilize prices for the election (remember this is the same group of politicians that forced Solyndra to announce a plant closure after the last election).

Interesting topic.I don't remember DC being very windy unless it was wind being blown out of any given politician's backside.  

Given the amount of renters versus landlords, it is much easier for politicians to appeal to that demographic.

Think of it as a suburban renewal program.In the end I think the goal here is to squeeze out the small guy since we are probably not making enough campaign contributions for the politicians to care about us.

Especially when politicians cotton on to the exact situation you just described, with a bunch of foreign interests stashing money in the RE market?

It won't happen...why, because politicians are landlords to. 

But, barring any evidence other than stupidity of our politicians (which is rampant among both political parties), I'm hesitant to assume there is any conspiracy going on.

I do think the appreciation will come despite our incompetent/crooked politicians. 3rd largest city in the country so there are jobs.

Unfortunately the second wave is going to hit right before the election as some people care more about if their politician wins then if the american people are doing well.
