Is there anything I need to be aware of to prevent unforeseen tax implications down the road?

Are you using very conservative numbers and building in contingency for overruns or unforeseen items? 

We have put many hours into rectifying situations unforeseen with zoning and city officials at no additional cost, also went above and beyond to offer to help sell the property at no cost as well. 

Then ther is an unforeseen problem, but it is overcome by the next commercial break and he is still whole.

Also ensure you perform your due diligence because such property are sold for a reason and you must do your best to find out why they want to sell it, so that you don't fall into any unforeseen trap of the seller.
