@Rob Derasmo maybe things are different in your area but the first thing that the owners would do is look on zillow and see that the house is worth far more than the offer, nobody in their right mind would let a house go for $550k with a potential $500k profit attached to it

Recording the land contract itself or a memorandum won't prevent things like construction liens or fines for code violations from attaching to the title.

I'm obviously going to have my own emotions attached to the decision, so I'd like to ask what others would do if you're in a similar situation.
