I currently remotely manage an STR (although it's only a few hours away) using a combination of Evolve Vacation Rental network and technology such as Nexia/Schlage digital door locks and other automation hacks for guest communication. 

@Chris Jensen I feel like in the modern age there is a better solution for folks who don't want a listing agent which is the "flat fee" listing model.
