You may have more luck traveling approximately 100 miles out to areas such as Macon, Columbus or Augusta, to name a few.  

in areas like Dayton, Indianapolis, Birmingham, or possibly even Athens or Augusta, GA (I'm familiar with both areas).

Unless your house is on the Augusta National, let's keep it real here in that it's 100 square feet of grass. 

I am currently stationed in Augusta, Ga where cost of living is super cheap and the area is growing decently.

I prefer to believe that most of us could leave far earlier than we think (meaning we are wasting precious time), allow the money/portfolio to continue growing (without us spending time on it) while we're focused on time and health and still not having to worry about money.
